Those of us old enough to remember Stanley Kubrick’s blockbuster movie, 2001: A space odyssey, are likely to be at least a little concerned about the growth of the electronic medical record. In the movie, the spaceship’s computer ran amuck and started killing off the astronauts. Salvation could only be achieved through unplugging the machine. Is this cautionary tale an allegory for our times? What does the future hold for the EMR?
